An exciting new bill introduced in the Senate on Thursday by a group of bipartisan legislators would legalize banking for legalized, regulated marijuana dispensaries.
As our Palm Beach and Broward County drug crime defense lawyers know, banks have been hesitant (to say the least) about doing business with marijuana businesses. This new bill, if it becomes law, will offer the banks considerable comfort should they choose to conduct marijuana-related business.

Linking legal marijuana businesses with the banking industry will be a safeguard against crime. In many states across the country, marijuana use is becoming more and more accepted; laws in various states now allow recreational and/or medical use of marijuana or have eased the penalties associated with using the drug once criminalized throughout the country.

Despite falling just short of the 60% threshold last November, the strong majority of Floridians have supported medical marijuana for some time. But the tide is turning even further in that a majority of Floridians now support decriminalizing the recreational use of marijuana.
As our Delray Beach and Fort Lauderdale drug crime defense lawyers at Leifert & Leifert know, states across the country are starting to adopt more lenient marijuana laws. While many have approved medical marijuana, some have even made the recreational use of cannibals legal.

Florida may be the next state to do so with more than half of the state’s voters supporting legalization. While it may not meet the standard for a successful ballot initiative, that clear majority has the potential to influence state legislators and this — or the next — governor.

On Monday, a South Florida man was acquitted by a Broward County jury after claiming that the dozens of marijuana plants he had been growing were used “for his own medical purposes.”
Our Palm Beach and Broward County marijuana crime defense lawyers know that the legal issue of marijuana possession and production is a controversial one in the State of Florida, especially in a year during which the state legislature plans to debate how to handle medical marijuana.

The case, and more particularly its outcome, was a first for the Sunshine State, and it contributes to the increasingly lenient attitudes toward marijuana expressed by our state’s residents.
